Roundtable is a district monthly meeting held the second Thursday of the month (except July) at 7:00 pm at the LDS Church (10055 West Rd, Houston, 77064) to help unit leaders plan and carry out their own program. Roundtable is a form of supplemental training for volunteers. The objective of roundtable is to give leaders program ideas; information on policy, events, and training opportunities; and an opportunity to share experiences and enjoy fun and fellowship with other Scouting leaders. As a result of the roundtable experience, unit leaders will be inspired, motivated, informed, and able to provide a stronger program for their Scouts.

Camp-o-ree is a weekend camp out for troops. Patrols compete in various competitions and are judged on leadership, teamwork, skill demonstration and Scout spirit. Join us for a great Scouting tradition and experience at the Soaring Eagle District Camporee. This year’s camporee will include the spider web, knot bar, tomahawk throwing, pioneering (tallest structure), lashing a seven knot tripod, fire building, first aid, tennis ball mania, an orienteering course, Dutch oven cooking, and more.

Webelos Do Your Best

Webelos Do Your Best is an opportunity for Webelos to work on four activity badges and take a 3.5-mile walkabout. This is going to be a day only event for 2017. Webelos dens compete in den yell and den flag competitions. A parent/guardian must accompany every Webelos Scout.
Activities will include working on the following adventures Webelos Walk-About, Earth Rocks, Into the Woods, Into the Wild, and Dutch Oven demonstration and tasting. The event is being held at Jesse H. Jones Park and Nature Center (20634 Kenswick Dr, Humble, Texas). More information will be available at the March roundtable. The registration deadline is March 24, 2017.

Scouts and the entire family will enjoy visiting hundreds of booths with fun activities and crafts, learning Scout skills, meeting new friends and tasting the delicious outdoor cooking. Bring comfortable shoes and your camera. At Scout Fair, Scouts of all ages converge to showcase their Scouting skills. Meet leaders and Scouts from your neighborhood. Sample the amazing dutch oven creations and other delicacies in the outdoor cooking area. Visit the midway with over 90 experts representing merit badges. Enjoy live entertainment on the center stage. Watch demonstrations, interact with participating booths from our community partners...pick up free offers. Open to the public. Admission is free (area parking fees apply).

Scout Fair Coupon Books are a brilliant way for units to raise money and prepare Scouts to earn their own way! The Scout Fair coupon book offers great savings for the buyer, while Scouts earn commissions for every $10 coupon book purchased. Buyers support the Scouting program while receiving over $600 in valuable savings from partners such as Kroger, Sonic, Bass Pro, Goodyear and more. All units receive a 30% base commission for each $10 Scout Fair Coupon Book sold, for funds turned in on or before May 6, 2017. Participate at Scout Fair, as either a service unit or booth participant, and earn an additional 10% commission. Service units must have a minimum of 50% of their registered youth participating to receive the additional commission. Units can also take advantage of early bird turn-in dates offering 5%, 3% and 1% additional bonus commissions. When Scouts sell 15 or more coupon books, they'll earn the Super Salesman patch, qualify for entry in weekly drawings and earn great prizes from the Scout Fair coupon book prize brochure. Scouts who sell at least 217 Scout Fair coupon books will receive an additional bonus of two tickets to an Astros game, hat, and a souvenir bag. For questions, contact Jennifer Ausmus.

Scout Fair Booths: Every unit is encouraged to sponsor a booth at the fair. This is your opportunity to show our community what Scouting is all about and to share your Scouting skills with fellow Scouts and Scout Leaders. In the past, booths have included craft stations (Cub Scouts), rope making (Boy Scouts), orienteering (Venturing), and law enforcement (Exploring). Keep it simple and fun. By involving all the Scouts and parents in your unit, booth preparation and set-up, manning and take down can be shared to keep it simple and make it fun. Each. Units must register for a booth by April 21, 2017.

Service Units: Units can participate in Scout Fair as a service unit. Service units should check-in at the council service unit booth upon arrival. Scouts are needed in many ways to help at Scout Fair, whether helping to hand out flyers, unload boxes, or set up areas. Your unit will receive a notice of where your help is needed one week before the fair. Service units must have a minimum of 50% of their registered youth participating to receive the additional commission.

Day camp is an opportunity for Scouts entering 1st – 5th grade during the next school year. Scouts will have a wild time on the safari adventure making new friends, earning rank advancements and participating in BB guns, archery, sports, skills, and crafts. The registration fee is $66.50 for the first Scout and $65 for each additional Scout. The registration fee includes a t-shirt, patch, program supplies, and water bottle.

Many volunteers are needed to make camp a success, so please consider volunteering. Adult volunteers can also register their non-Scouting children ages 3-5 (potty trained) or girls ages 6-13. Boy Scouts and youth ages 14-17 can also volunteer. Camp is being held at St. Timothy Lutheran Church (14225 Hargrave Rd, Houston, TX 77070).
- Late registration begins May 7, 2017. A late fee of $15 will apply; patches, t-shirts and craft supplies are not guaranteed.
Packs are encouraged to hold spring recruiting events. Recruiting events can be any sort of fun activity that would entice elementary-aged boys to check out Scouting. This can be simply inviting potential recruits to an already scheduled summer pack activity, or it can be a separate event focused primarily on recruiting. Invite newly recruited Scouts and kindergarteners to attend day camp and pack summer events. Sometimes we think we can only recruit in the fall, but spring is a great time to get new Tigers and their families involved early. The council provides a variety of support materials for packs, including fliers.

District Committee Meeting
District committee meetings are typically held the first Tuesday of every month at 7:00 pm at the LDS Church (10055 West Road). Consisting of chartered organization representatives (CORs) and elected district committee members, the district committee coordinates the functions of the district. The purpose of the district is to work through chartered organizations and community groups to organize and support successful units. The end result of effective district support is more and more youth members receiving a better and better program.
